This hike combines sweeping views of the Hudson Valley, a moderate climb up Bull Hill, and a unique finish among the ruins of the Cornish Estate. The idea is for you to know what you’ll be hiking before you sign up.

This route is designed for people who want a scenic, active, and well-organized experience without having to figure out the logistics on the spot. Before you set out, you’ll know the meeting point, the approximate duration, the level of difficulty, and the options for getting to the trail.

The route starts in the Little Stony Point area and continues toward Bull Hill, featuring sections of forest, open quarry terrain, and several spots where you can see the Hudson River. The trail then descends to the ruins of Cornish Estate, a historic stop that gives this outing a more visually striking and unique conclusion.

It’s not an extreme hike, but it’s not a flat stroll either. It’s about 5 miles with roughly 1,128 feet of elevation gain, so you should be comfortable hiking uphill, keep up with the group’s pace, and bring the basics for several hours outdoors.

What you should know before you go up.

What level of fitness do I need?

You need to be able to walk about 5 miles on a steady incline. It’s not a technical trail, but it does require good leg strength, plenty of water, and comfort walking on trails with dirt, roots, and rocks.

What parts of the route will we see?

The plan is to start at Little Stony Point, continue toward Bull Hill to see the Hudson River viewpoints, and head down to Cornish Estate, where the ruins of the old estate are located.

What should I bring to be prepared?

Comfortable shoes with good traction, water, snacks, a light jacket, and something to wear for photos. Avoid sandals, smooth-soled shoes, or new shoes you haven’t tested on hikes before.

How does it work if I arrive on my own?

You can go directly to Cold Spring. Before the tour, you’ll receive the meeting point and exact time. This option costs $20 less because it doesn’t include transportation from NJ/NY.

Does the tour change if the weather is bad?

If there is light rain, the pace may slow down and extra caution will be taken on descents. If conditions are unsafe, the route may be adjusted or the hike rescheduled. Any major changes will be communicated before departure.
