Mount Beacon isn't very long, but it's a steep climb. The trail is about 5 miles long with an elevation gain of nearly 1,720 feet, so it feels more challenging than other hikes of similar length.

The trail passes through areas connected to the old Mount Beacon Incline Railway and continues to the fire tower, where you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Hudson Valley if the weather cooperates.

Be sure to bring hiking shoes, water, and snacks. It’s not technically difficult, but it does require the ability to handle a sustained climb and descent on uneven terrain.
